Reflection on the Feast of the Blessed Mother

Mother, sweet mother, adored by some, despised by others,
A stumbling block, a foundation, a hope and a fear.
For two thousand years people have struggled with you,
True lady who is one of us and somehow beyond us.
We stand in awe and see our truest-selves,
We too are givers of hope and fear, despised and adored.
Your image surrounds us, it can not be mistaken.
Wether hidden in the earth or enthroned in the heavens,
Cover us with your mantle of love as we cover others.
Sweet mother of One, sweet mother be ours.

“O God, you have taken to thyself the blessed Virgin Mary,
mother of thy incarnate Son: Grant that we, who have been
redeemed by his blood, may share with her the glory of thine
eternal kingdom; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our
Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.”
